Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 2: 6 – 8

Communion Stewards

Did you know that you can help to serve Communion at St. Matthew’s?

Communion is one of the responsibilities and duties of a pastor. The pastor may “train deacons and lay members to serve the consecrated communion elements.” (The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church)

During the worship service “lay persons as well as other clergy may assist the pastor in giving the bread and cup.” (The United Methodist Book of Worship)

Each local United Methodist church determines how often to serve communion. At St. Matthew’s we celebrate communion once a month, on the first Sunday. Communion is also celebrated on special days of the year, such as Christmas and Easter. The Pastor schedules the times when Communion will be part of the worship service.
